Ultimate File Manager (UFM) is an advanced File Manager (package that extends the functionality of File Manager) distributed with carefully selected and configured freeware applications. The purpose of UFM project is making the best environment to run your favourite applications within one place. Main application of the project is well-known and appreciated Total Commander File Manager (shareware) or its freeware equivalent Multi Commander. UFM lets you manage all of your files and applications in best and simplest way. This properly configured, easy to use and very powerfull environment gives you the best experience, whatever you want to do!
ABOUT
Ultimate File Manager is designed for Microsoft Windows platform and is distributed to the end user as an installer, which is written in NSIS and Delphi CE. Latest version is ULTIMATE FILE MANAGER 11.4 and was released on February 29, 2024 (more information). The installer is simple and intuitive. Installer copies all required files and configures the system properly (you can use both normal and portable installation). Ultimate File Manager can be run on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.
The power of Ultimate File Manager is appropriately configured file manager that is enriched with the best plug-ins to extend its functionality and carefully selected external programs (which are primarily available in a special MegaPack version, which in my opinion contains the best and most useful free applications that can be run directly, thanks to the integration with the Ultimate File Manager). Ultimate File Manager allows you to select the appropriate file manager, applications and plugins at the installation stage. It is easy thanks to detailed description of each component and intuitive interface.
Pakiet Ultimate File Manager consists of the following components (depending on the selected file manager):
- Extended main menu - additional options and additional features
- Extended button bars - additional button bars for system settings and applications
- Quick directory menu - access to the most needed folders, the ability to run file system plugins
- Predefined custom columns - allows you to display custom information based on categories

- Predefined selection patterns - allows you to select files of a specific type (files, directories, by extension)
- Predefined list of ignored files - allows you to hide unwanted files in the list (disabled by default)

- External Applications - the best and most useful free applications integrated with Ultimate File Manager
- Plugins - the most popular and most useful plug-ins (TC) integrated with Ultimate File Manager
- Ultimate File Manager supports multi-language interface - there are currently few supported languages
- UFM installer (in normal installation mode) allows full integration with Windows Explorer - you can create shortcuts on your desktop, in the start menu, in the quick launch bar, you can pin the UFM icon in the start menu as well as in the taskbar. You can add a shortcut to the context menu of folders, files, and drives. You will create the appropriate entries in the Windows registry
- UFM installer (in normal installation mode) allows you to use the AutoPlay feature - you can open portable media, CDs (DVDs), music, movies, photos and more in Ultimate File Manager
- UFM installer (in normal installation mode) allows you to use autostart with Windows - you can run Ultimate File Manager with the startup of the Windows operating system
Ultimate File Manager is completely free (but it depends on chosen File Manager and installed components). UFM installer allows you to install one of two file managers - Total Commander (shareware) or Multi Commander (freeware). By choosing Total Commander you have to bear in mind that you have to buy a license to use it. However, you can use Multi Commander, which is completely free (you can only do this in Ultimate File Manager!).
Both File Managers from Ultimate File Manager project support keyboard shortcuts. A keyboard shortcut is a combination of two or more keys, most commonly Ctrl, Alt, Shift, and a number or letter key that allow you to execute some option in the program you are using. Using keyboard shortcuts makes many tasks faster or easier. A description of all keyboard shortcuts supported by Ultimate File Manager project File Managers can be found in a dedicated document that describes them in detail.
Both File Managers from Ultimate File Manager project support command line. The command-line interface (CLI) is the interface of a computer program in the system shell that allows you to interactively access operating system functions or services. Program control through the command line comes down to issuing commands from a strictly defined set and syntax. The commands are most often typed from the keyboard or saved in scripts. A description of all command line commands supported by Ultimate File Manager project File Managers can be found in a dedicated document that describes them in detail.
Ultimate File Manager supports multi-language interface. If you want, you can help translate UFM project into your own language. Remember that it takes some time and patience. Total Commander® is the best File Manager for Windows (formerly known as Windows Commander). It has two fixed windows side by side like a well-known file manager for DOS. The aim of the program is to put you in total control of your files. Total Commander comes in different versions for multiple platforms (it is also available for mobile devices - primarily Android and Windows Phone).
Total Commander is shareware. If you use the program for longer than one month, you are expected to register it. The unregistered program is fully functional. Unregistered users only have to click one of three buttons to dismiss a nag screen at start-up. Registration includes all future updates (until further notice), provided that you get the latest version yourself by downloading it. Total Commander for Windows comes in three different versions (32-bit, 64-bit and 16-bit).

- Built-in file viewer. The integrated viewer allows to view text, unicode, html, bitmap graphics, multimedia and RTF files. It allows to view files of almost any size (up to 2^63 bytes)
- Enhanced search function with full text search in any files across multiple drives

The idea of creating Ultimate File Manager package is based on existing packages that extend the functionality of the Total Commander file manager. I hope that the Ultimate File Manager project is already the best of them and that it will only get better in future and more useful...
This product includes external plugins for Total Commander. Because it is difficult or sometimes impossible to contact plugin authors directly, they have been added to the project in the belief that they agree and do not mind. However, if you are the author of a plugin that is used in the Ultimate File Manager project and you do not agree, please let me know.
Ultimate File Manager extended menu idea is inspired and based on Peter H. S. Madsen's menu (Danish Total Commander translator).
This product uses 7-Zip file archiver by Igor Pavlov. 7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio. It is free software with open source. Ultimate File Manager project description text was created on the basis of own materials and the resources of the official website of Total Commander File Manager and the resources of the official website of Multi Commander File Manager. UFM icon is designed and based on psdgraphics.com. UFM uses Oxygen Icons Set.
In order to ensure future development and the highest quality of Ultimate File Manager project, UFM installer collects anonymous installation data. All collected installation data are processed and stored on the project website (https://pawelporwisz.pl). Based on this data, anonymous usage statistics are displayed. These are: unique computer identifier, username, Windows operating system info, installation date, IP address and basic information about the UFM installation (language, version, installation directory, architecture, mode and type of installation, etc).
